The Party Is Over

I've been remiss in my blogging duties. In addition to not writing as often as I used to, I've fallen behind on all of my blogger friends' newest posts. The reason? I am incredibly lazy. I am starting a new job (today!) and have been in a mild state of panic in terms of Important Things to Do (such as ensuring I'm fully caught up on Mad Men). This new job will be a massive change. For the past 11 months, I've essentially been on what I like to call a SABBATICAL. Others might say UNEMPLOYED. I did some temp work, though, damnit, so there was a spell of, I don't know, several months where I worked off and on.

My new job, however, is full time. I'm told to expect 50 hours/week. Hence my mild panic. In addition to Mad Men, how will I:
  • Keep up with blogs?
  • Keep up with FaceBook?
  • Nap?
  • Wander out to the garden to remove a few weeds here and there?
  • Keep up with important TV shows?
  • Nap?
  • Be charmed by the different places my cats nap throughout the day?
  • Take pictures of my charming cats napping and send them to my husband?
Squeaky the Cat soiling what was a drawer full of clean, hairless socks.

Capt. Nap doing what he does best (and further soiling what probably WASN'T a clean, hairless pillow).
Anyway, this post is my lame attempt to:
  1. Get you to feel sorry for me (probably should have made my time at home seem a bit less...leisurely)
  2. Apologize for being bad at keeping up with you all recently
  3. Apologize in advance for being bad at keeping up with you in the near future while I adjust to my new lifestyle
Now I must get ready for my first day at work.

    1. Er, no. Today was taxing, and it was only a half day spent in orientation!!

  2. Good luck with your new job. I am reassurred to hear that someone else has a house which is covered in a patina of cat fur. If only I could knit, I could knit another cat... (why?). Jazz n Jewel open the wardrobe and make nests in the (previously) clean clothing. Sigh.

    1. Thank you, EC. Rest assured, you are NOT alone. Fur coats every available surface here (including me).

Funny (?) - I once worked at a vet's office, and a lady who was having her BELOVED dog euthanized asked us to shave him so she could knit its fur into a sweater. I wish I were joking. It was awful. One of those tragic-comic events.

    2. Eeeuuw. I don't think I could come at that - though it is (a bit) better than people who have their much loved animals stuffed.

    3. Thankfully, she did not request taxidermy services (from us, at least).

  3. Good luck my dear! You're awfully brave. I only work 16 hours a week and I resent it, lol.

Just admiring your lovely photo of Squeaky- absolute spitting image of Izzy Dizzy Dora. Who for the first time did not come in last night, meh. So guess who woke up at 4am in a panic??

Anyway, pace yourself, take it easy. 50 hours a week is a huge amount of hours. The average working week in the UK is 37 hours and most people don't have MS!

    1. I AM brave, aren't I? Tee hee. So far, it's been easy as pie. No computer yet, so nothing to do but sit there and occasionally meander about. Kind of like I do at home! I'm sure it will all change soon. Computer set to arrive tomorrow.

That is scary about IDD! Did she seem scared when she finally turned up, or more like, "Yay, I've just had a *mint* [don't tell The Teenager I'm using the verboten word] adventure!"?

    2. Long may it continue that you can take it easy.
When the little madam strolled/slunk in early this morning, she did look kind of contrite. Don't think it'll last though. I had to go back to bed for a snooze at 10!!

p.s. Teenager says you can say anything as you're American and he ADORES Americans - the ban only applies to me, lol.

    1. Well...it may involve some weekend work. So, there's that! I don't think it will be like that all the time; rather, it'll just be in especially busy periods that I should expect it and not stalk out (shuffle out, in my case) in a huff.

Not sure if the employer knows. I haven't TOLD them, but a teeny bit of Google detective work turns up an article I wrote, and fundraisers I've been involved in.

Thanks for wishing me such British-sounding luck!

    1. And here I feel compelled to say sorry for taking so long to reply! Would you believe I've never seen Love Story? Just recently saw The Way We Were. I'm very behind on classic love-y movies.

Okay, my new job is an editor, so be sure to keep your blog and comments here error free or I will feel compelled to correct them. Hee!

The cats say "thanks" and "we know."

  7. Good luck! You will ace it I am sure. I work 37.5hrs a week over 5 days officially but recently it has been getting more and more due to increased responsibilities. It is tiring and all I can say is thank goodness for modafinil, but I am the family breadwinner so it is this or nothing really! That being said, I know you are going to rock it. GOod luck!

    1. Thanks! I'll have to check into the modafinil. Is that for fatigue? Glad to hear there are others out there successfully managing the full-time work, but I am sorry that you're slowly getting more piled on. Good luck to you, too!

    2. Modafinil is Provigil. Good luck dealing with the insurance.

  8. Best of luck to you. You will be awesome.
I truly enjoy your writing & wicked sense of humor. Look forward to hear more about your work as an editor. (As a former ad copywriter, I could use your expertise!)

    1. MOS, I quite enjoy wielding that red pen! (Of course, it's extremely irritating when *I* get edited. The shame!)

Anyway, many thanks for the kind words and good-luck wishes. I already have a few posts in mind. Now to find the time/energy to write them!
