Normal Person vs. Hypochondriac: "The Neckache"

First, let me apologize for the quality of the drawings. Clearly, I am not an artist. Now that we've established that, here's a delightful little slice of my life as a hypochondriac with MS. In case it's not entirely clear from the drawings below, a Normal Person is featured on the left. Hypochondriac resides on the right. I call this one "The Neckache." Enjoy! (If you click on the pictures, you can see them in all their fantastic detail.)

  1. I can relate, especially to the brain aneurysm fear. I get horrific migraines, and every time I do I think...migraine or is my brain going to explode?!!!!

    1. Yes!! I can concoct some pretty vivid images to accompany the brain-exploding fear...

    2. What's with this "not an artist" crap? You have a natural talent for sequential art!

Your cats let you sleep until 6:30?! Slackers, they are.

    3. I should add this wound up as a reply to this comment thread, because I started out by mentioning my friend who recently collapsed in front of me with an aneurism and passed away not long after. But it seemed a bit too...well, too horrific...

    4. Paper Chipmunk (aka Ellen)! So glad to see/hear you! I was worried, and now of course I know you just went through something horrible. So sorry to hear it...

No sure what sequential art is, but thanks!!

  2. Hilarious! Lovely bird art notwithstanding, I think you should turn your focus to cartooning.

    1. Nay, Amy, nay. I am pretty sure my indisputable (and, let's be honest, astonishing) talent at both art forms dictates that I should not focus on just one.

  3. Oh I am LOVING these drawings!!!! Especially the cats. My cat is exactly the same, think she moves around more than me and I wake up to find her staring at me intensely, i.e. feed me NOW.

    1. Why thank you, Stumbling! Cats do have that baleful "feed me" stare down, don't they? When mine aren't napping, which is most of the time, they are staring at me to feed them. When staring doesn't work, one of them (Squeaky the Cat) begins following me around and whining. Very annoying. Works every time, though. Thank goodness I'm not a parent of humans. My kids would be enormous brats b/c I wouldn't be able to withstand the whining.

(But man, can you please feed your husband a sandwich. That dude is skin & bones!)

    1. Haha, MOS! He's on the Swank Diet (by choice, I promise!), so as long as his sandwich contains no red meat or cheese or excessive saturated fats, I'll gladly make him one. :)

  6. I'm with Ellen. Your cats must be drugged to let you sleep that late. And mine take my mind off my own incipient demise by puking. On the carpet. Or the bed. Or my clean washing. Jewel is never very sick - she is a little bit sick in half a dozen places. Three feet apart. Jazz is very sick - in a huge pile which makes me sick.
And yes, the three am horrors do my head in. I have planned funerals (not always mine) at that time.
And your cartoons are bloody brilliant.

    1. The instant they detect signs of life (e.g., a sigh or a cough), they are awake and demanding to be fed. As long as you don't move, talk, sigh, breathe loudly, they'll leave you alone.

Capt. Nap sounds very much like Jewel in terms of quantity: he's done what appears to be projectile vomiting; really, if it wasn't so disgusting, I'd be impressed with the area he manages to cover. Turns out he had a food allergy. Since we switched his diet, the voluminous vomiting has ceased (thank God).

You are far too kind about the brilliance of my cartoons. Thanks, though! It was lots of fun to draw; I'm wracking my brain for another topic...
